WASHINGTON, D.C. – Respected across the nation as one of America’s best lawmen, Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey was in Washington D.C. on Friday to stand with President Donald Trump as he signed his first veto that strikes down his declaration of a national emergency at the southern border.

In a video tweet by President Trump, Sheriff Ivey was shown among prominent political and law enforcement leaders in the Oval Office, including Vice President Mike Pence.

“Earlier today it was my honor to stand with President Trump in the Oval Office as he vetoed Congress’ action of overturning his Emergency Declaration on Border Security,” said Sheriff Ivey.

“The President invited approximately 10 Sheriffs from across the country to stand in unison with him and our Federal Law Enforcement partners as we join together in our concern and efforts to address illegal immigration. The efforts include partnering together to combat illegal immigration as well as working to define a clear path of citizenship for those who wish to come to our country legally.”

Sheriff Ivey said that, based on information provided by the United States Customs and Border Patrol Agents and the Department of Homeland Security, there is no question that there is a state of emergency along our southern borders where many thousands of illegal aliens and drugs are constantly crossing our borders.

“I was honored to attend today’s event as Border Security impacts our entire country, as those who cross our borders illegally filter into our communities where they impact public safety,” said Sheriff Ivey.

“Our agency will continue to work closely with ICE and Border Patrol as we work to protect our citizens and the second busiest Passenger Cruise Terminal in the country.”

No stranger to Washington, Sheriff Ivey represented the state of Florida last September as he joined other sheriffs from around the country on the steps the Capitol to collectively encourage members of Congress to take action on immigration reform.

Subsequent to the round-table discussion, Sheriff Ivey met with President Trump who again committed his support to law enforcement and our efforts to keep our communities and country safe.

A sampling of Brevard County residents showed that they are very proud of their sheriff.

“Wayne Ivey, saw you standing with the President today when he signed the video! So proud of Brevard’s Sheriff,” said Johnnie Ben Kump, Pastor at The Great Outdoors Community Church, on Facebook.

President Trump’s veto now sends the resolution back to the U.S. House of Representatives, which is expected to pick it up after the week-long congressional recess. The House will need a two-thirds vote to override the president’s veto.
