National Drug Take Back Day Encourages Proper Disposal of Prescription Drugs

Health First partnered with brevard county law enforcement agencies

On Saturday, April 27, Health First partnered with the Cocoa Beach Police Department, the Palm Bay Police Department and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office to provide an opportunity for the public to properly discard of prescription drugs.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – On Saturday, April 27, Health First partnered with the Cocoa Beach Police Department, the Palm Bay Police Department and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office to provide an opportunity for the public to properly discard of prescription drugs.

The annual event – National Drug Take Back Day – was held at Health First’s Community Hospitals – Cape Canaveral Hospital, Palm Bay Hospital and Viera Hospital.

More than 400 pounds of unused prescription medications were collected and then incinerated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA):

• Cape Canaveral Hospital: 116.9 pounds
• Palm Bay Hospital: 191 pounds
• Viera Hospital: 162.1 pounds

National Drug Take Back Day happens twice per year across the country. The event promotes the safe disposal of unused or expired prescription drugs.
