BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The City of Melbourne announced that the regular City Council meeting on June 11 will be held in the Wakefield Ballroom at the Hilton Melbourne Rialto Place, located at 200 Rialto Place in Melbourne.

The meeting is being moved due to large expected turnout for the first reading and discussion of an ordinance to rename Airport Boulevard to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

The Government-in-the-Sunshine Manual recommends that when a large turnout is expected, public boards and commissions should take reasonable steps to accommodate the expected public audience, such as moving the meeting to a larger room.

During the May 14 meeting, the last time Council discussed renaming a street in Melbourne in honor of Dr. King, attendance exceeded the room capacity of the City Hall Council Chamber, which can hold 215 people.

The ballroom area of the Hilton Melbourne Rialto Place can accommodate between 450 and 500 people.
