BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Police Department celebrated the career of Officer, Reserve Officer and VCOP/Volunteer Marvin Flynn.

A retirement ceremony was held at the Melbourne Police Department recently to honor Flynn’s extraordinary 45 years of service with the Melbourne Police Department.

In attendance were Chief David Gillespie, Deputy City Manager Jenni Lamb, MPD Command Staff, Officers, Volunteers, friends and family.

Flynn began his career with the MPD in June of 1974 as a reserve officer and he was certified in the very first State of Florida Reserve Class in 1976. He was a paid Melbourne police officer from 1980 through 1982. In 1982, he returned to the reserve program until 2002.

At that time Flynn became a Melbourne VCOP (Volunteer Citizens on Patrol) and was promoted to Field Training Officer in 2005.

Flynn has served the City of Melbourne for four and a half decades with integrity, respect, and dedication.

“Everybody the MPD will miss Marvin greatly and his legacy is entrenched in the history of the Melbourne Police Department,” said Community Relations Coordinator Christina Brainard.

“They wish him the best of luck and a very happy retirement.”
