Jeff Navin has been a sports journalist for more than 28 years, including the past 25 1/2 years in Brevard County, Volusia County and Flagler County in Florida.
Prior to that, he worked for The News in Laredo, Texas for 2 1/2 years.
The Melbourne resident is a native of Niantic, Conn., where he graduated from East Lyme High School in 1979.
He attended Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J., and he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Communication in 1983.
While at Seton Hall University, Navin was a member of John Moon's cross country, indoor track and outdoor track teams for each of his four years.
He also was the sports editor of the The Setonian during his senior year.
Navin has traveled during his vacation time through the years, visiting 41 foreign countries with a lifetime goal of 50. That might be difficult considering he has made repeated trips to many of those same 41 foreign countries.
He has adopted several dogs through the years from both the Humane Society and a local rescue group in Brevard County.
In his free time, he likes to watch the New York Yankees, New York Knicks and New York Giants through subscription sports packages.
While on trips to South American and Europe, Navin tries to see at least one local soccer match. He also likes to attend local theater events.
He speaks Spanish and has made efforts in the past to learn French and Italian. Much of that has been forgotten.
His parents both are alive and living in Connecticut. Joseph lives in Groton, Conn. with his wife, Josephine. His mother, Susan, lives in Niantic. One sister, Anne Navin, lives in Mystic, Conn. Another sister, Maureen Hirsch, lives in Washington, D.C. with her husband, Ron Hirsch.
