Peter Kerasotis Bio

By  //  February 8, 2012

Peter Kerasotis is the preeminent expert on Space Coast sports. His presence in Brevard County goes back to 1966, when he first met Clint Hurdle on North Merritt Island’s Little League field. He knew right then that Hurdle was destined to become a major league player, and that he wasn’t. So he wisely transitioned to his second love – words.

Peter has been a sports writer since 1978, and has chronicled the accomplishments and achievements of Brevard County’s great athletes. But he’s been around, too, working for the Dallas Times-Herald and the Los Angeles Daily News. He’s covered numerous Super Bowls, World Series, NBA Finals, National Championship Games, Final Fours, Wimbledon titles, the Masters and other major golf tournaments … the list goes on.

He’s local, but he’s national. And now he’s yours to read at SpaceCoastDaily.com. You can also find his award-winning writing regularly in the New York Times and Orlando Magazine, as well as other publications; all of which are chronicled and archived here.

Peter is the author of the book Stadium Stories, and he’s currently writing the biography for his friend, the local businessman, community leader and former coach Tom Wasdin. He also appears Friday afternoons at 12:10 on WMEL 1300-AM.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Peter’s family moved to Merritt Island in the mid-60’s, when his father transferred with Grumman to work on the Apollo program. He graduated from Merritt Island High School, Brevard Community College and the University of Florida. He and his wife Shelley make their home on Merritt Island.
