District 22 Starts Little League All-Star Tournaments

Early Round Pool Play

BREVARD COUNTY • MIMS, FLORIDA – District 22 Little League All-Star tournaments opened Saturday with a full slate of pool play games at Holder Park in Mims and at W.W. James Park in Titusville.

At Holder Park, the 9/10 baseball division started with Merritt Island defeating Rockledge 16-0 in 4 innings.  Eric Scott of Merritt Island had the only triple of the day.

In the 9/10 afternoon game, Port St. John came back from a 12-6 deficit in the 6th inning to win 14-12 over Mims.  Tristan Woodruff had two doubles for Mims while Brandon Browning had a double for Port St. John in their eight-run 6th inning.

In the 10/11 baseball division also at Holder Park, Justin Brewer and Quincy Carter both went 3 for 4 with a double each to lead Rockledge over Indian River City 27-0 in 4 innings.

In the afternoon 10/11 matchup, Merritt Island lost to Mims 8-2 in 5 1/2 innings. Jacob Wiirre, Jonah Schwartz and Corbin Graves had doubles for Mims and Andrew Beardall hit a homerun for Merritt Island in their 3rd inning.  Seth Lovell pitched a complete game for Mims with 10 strikeouts and going 2 for 2 at the plate.

The Majors baseball division tournament opened at W.W. James Park in Titusville.  The morning game saw Nick Avdellas, Joe Johnson and Jake Barnett hit home runs with RJ Diaz hitting two HRs to lead Merritt Island  over Indian River City 17-0 in 4 innings.  Jackson Woodward had a double for Indian River City.

The Majors afternoon game had Mims coming up short 13-7 against Rockledge. Brett Parrish and Price Jennngs hit solo home runs for Rockledge, while Blake Newberry had a double for Mims.

The Juniors baseball division began play at Holder Park with Rockledge defeating Mims 15-5 in 6 innings during the morning game. For Rockledge, Drew Parrish went 4 for 5 at the plate scoring four runs and adding 3 RBI, while Kevin Clanton went 2 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI.  Mac Massengill went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI for Mims,  while Jordan Taylor also contributed going  2 for 2 and stealing five bases.

In the Juniors baseball afternoon game, Port St. John came from behind with a three-run 4th inning to defeat Merritt Island Senior 6-3 in 7 innings.

District 2

Four tournament games were on the schedule Saturday in District 2 at Rodes Park in West Melbourne, including play in the 9/10 and 10/11 baseball divisions.

In the 9/10 games, South Beaches beat Eau Gallie Gold 17-8 in 6 innings, while West Melbourne knocked off Viera/Suntree Black by a score of 18-1.

The 10/11 games on the schedule Saturday had Beachside defeating Eau Gallie Gold 6-0 in 5.5 innings and Viera/Suntree topped West Melbourne 21-0 in 4 innings.

  1. What a beautiful day at Mims Park. The volunteers were great, Holder Park was amazing. Hats off to the Mims Little League!
