BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – A Connecticut man’s death four years ago has led to the arrest of his son living in Brevard County.

Michael Whilby of Palm Bay, 38, has been charged with murdering his father by pushing him down a flight of stairs in Farmington, Conn. in 2008.
He informed Melbourne Beach police June 29 about the crime and they in turn contacted the Farmington Police Department to report he had confessed to murdering his father.
In a press release, Farmington police revealed that on Jan. 16, 2008, Michael Elliott Whilby, who was living in Unionville, Conn. at the time, called police to inform them his father had died.
Responding to the scene, police discovered the body of Dr. Evans Whilby, 66, at the bottom of a flight of stairs.
Michael Whilby’s mother told investigators she had called her son from Las Vegas, asking him to go to his parents’ house in Farmington to check on his father because he had not shown up to meet her on a business trip there.
Upon questioning in 2008, Michael Whilby told investigators that he drove to his parents’ house, observed his father’s car in the driveway and entered the home where he found his father dead at the bottom of the stairs.
Evidence collected at the scene at the time led investigators in 2008 to think the death was accidental.
Whilby was arrested June 30 and had been detained in the Brevard County Jail on a fugitive from justice warrant while awaiting extradition.
Detectives from Connecticut transported him to Farmington on Tuesday for arraignment with his bond set at $1 million.
He has been living at 260 Hammock Road SE in Palm Bay since 2009.
