Police Officer Shoots Suspect In Melbourne

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A Melbourne Police officer shot and wounded a suspect Tuesday night inside an apartment.

Melbourne Police Department public information officer Sgt. Sheridan Shelley said at about 8:08 p.m. Tuesday, the Melbourne Police SWAT team responded to 3014 Fountainhead Circle Apartment No. 148 to execute a search warrant in reference to a narcotics investigation.

During the service of the search warrant, Shelley said a Melbourne Police officer shot a male subject that was inside the residence.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No officers were injured.

As a matter of protocol, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been requested to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, Shelley said.

“The Melbourne Police Department is currently investigating this incident and more information may be available at a later time,” Shelley said.
