Sheriff’s ‘Summer Slam’ Thwarts Drug Dealers

23 Arrests Made By 5 P.M.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office spent much of Frday rounding up suspects wanted for drug-related crimes on the Space Coast.

Brevard County Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Jason Dymond said that the operation, called “Summer Slam” was response to the trend of illegal prescription drug abuse plaguing our community.

Dymond said deputies fanned out across the Central Brevard area targeting those who have been illegally distributing prescription medications and other controlled substances.

During the past several months, narcotics purchases were made throughout the Cocoa area, Dymond said.

“As a result, 28 arrest warrants were obtained for individuals who are responsible for illegally selling prescription medications such as Percocet, Lortab, Roxicodone and Oxycodone,” he said.

Charges for those arrested ranges from the sale of a controlled substance to trafficking in controlled substances.

As of 5 p.m., Dymond said 23 suspects were arrested and deputies are currently seeking the remaining wanted suspects.

All suspects arrested were transported to the Brevard County Jail Complex in Sharpes.
