Arraignment Set For Today
WINDSOR LOCKS, CONNECTICUT – A Merritt Island man was arrested Tuesday afternoon when authorities discovered a loaded gun in his bag as arrived to board a plane.
TSA baggage screeners detained Joseph Hunt of Merritt Island, 81, after finding a loaded 9mm handgun in his bag as he passed through a security checkpoint at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks on Tuesday afternoon.
Inside Hunt’s bag, TSA inspectors also found additional ammunition.
He does have a Florida concealed firearms permit, but Windsor Locks police said that that permit does not apply in the state of Connecticut.
Police said Hunt failed to notify the airline or TSA of the weapon in his bag when he arrived at Bradley International Airport.
He was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit and circumventing established airport security procedures.
Hunt is being held in the Hartford County Detention Center on $2,500 bond and will be in court today to answer the charges.
