BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff’s Department deputies have arrested a West Melbourne man for the death of a four-month-old infant.

Brevard County Sherriff’s Department spokesman Lt. Tod Goodyear said Gavin Sola of West Melbourne, 22, was arrested and charged with First Degree Felony Murder and Aggravated Child Abuse.

On Sunday the infant was left in Sola’s care at 105 San Paulo Circle, West Melbourne, when her mother went to the store.

She returned 30 minutes later to find Sola and the unresponsive infant.

The baby was rushed to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne and then transferred to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando suffering from head trauma.

Goodyear said the child died Monday and an autopsy revealed a skull fracture from blunt force trauma.

Sola is currently being held at the Brevard County Jail Complex on a no bond status.
