Melbourne Drug Sweep Results in 16 Arrests

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Police in Melbourne conducted a large-scale arrest warrant sweep Thursday designed to deter sales of illicit drugs.

Melbourne Police Department spokesman Lt. T.A. Turner said the operation involved Melbourne’s Special Operations Unit, Street Crimes Unit and Uniform Division patrol squads.

“The warrant sweep was conducted in an effort to combat the street-level violence and illicit drug sales that are common with this type of violence,” Turner said.

In all a total of 56 arrest warrants were submitted by the Special Operations Unit and the arrest warrant sweep consisted of 16 physical arrests listed by those warrantsd.

Several of the wanted suspects had more than one arrest warrant.

Turner said more arrests are planned.
