BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – The 2012 National Night Out Against Crime will be held in Rockledge today.

The free public event is planned for this afternoon at McLarty Park, 790 Barton Boulevard, and is sponsored by the city of Rockledge and the Rockledge Police Department.

It is scheduled to run from 5 to 8 p.m. and will include a free barbecue picnic in the park.

Along with the traditional outside lights and front porch vigils, the 2012 National Night Out event is focused on achieving a number of specific goals.

Across America, National Night Out events are designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships and to send a message to criminals by letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
