Attempts To Flee Backfire

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff’s Department deputies apprehended a group of burglars red-handed when they responded to an alarm call late Monday night in Titusville.

Lt. Alex Herrera of the Brevard County Sheriff’s General Crimes Unit, send an alarm at the Parrish Packing House at 2900 Parrish Road in north Titusville sounded at 11:45 p.m. Monday.

Arriving on scene, deputies observed flashlights inside the building and set up a perimeter around the building.

Herrera said deputies approached the building and took two men immediately into custody.

Another man and a woman were observed running toward the rear of the property.

“Deputies quickly closed in and apprehended the two as they attempted to flee through the orange groves at the rear of the property,” Herrera said.

A short time later, deputies found a suspect’s vehicle at a vacant house located on Parrish Road.

During the investigation, deputies discovered wire and burglary tools on the premises.

Michael Keith Simmons of 8817 N. Atlantic Ave. #117, Cape Canaveral, 32, was charged with burglary and petit theft. He is a prison release re-offender and was released by the Florida Department of Corrections last October after serving a term for burglary.

John Michael Gonzalez of 6476 Colony Park Drive on Merritt Island, 19, was charged with burglary and petit theft. He admitted to deputies to being out on bond from a previous burglary arrest.

Patrick Sean Coats of Merritt Island, 20, was charged with burglary and petit theft. He admitted to being on felony probation for a previous burglary and was additionally charged with violation of probation.

Kristina D. Zylstra of 320 Kelly Street on Merritt Island, 16, was charged with burglary and petit theft.

The three adults were transported and held at the Brevard County Jail.  Zylstra was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center in Sharpes.
