BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A distracted teen driver ran into the back of a school bus Tuesday morning as it was picking up students in Melbourne.

Sgt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol said Brianna Sluder of Melbourne, 18, was driving east on Aurora Road near Fox Bay Drive about 8:25 a.m. Tuesday in a 2002 Kia SUV.

A Brevard Public Schools bus driven by Janet Connor of Melbourne, 57, was stopped with lights flashing on Aurora Road to pick up children at the bus stop.

Montes said Sluder was not playing attention and ran into the back of the school bus.

There were 22 students on the bus at the time of the accident.

One child was transported to Wuesthoff Medical Center in Melbourne with minor injuries, but no one else on the bus was harmed.

Sluder was not hurt, but was ticketed for careless driving.
