BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – With just a week remaining in the Brevard County Youth Football and Cheerleading Association’s regular-season schedule, teams are scrambling to clinch the highest seeds possible for the postseason playoffs.

The top four teams in each division advance to the first round of the conference playoffs opening Oct. 27.

The league is split into two conferences — North and South — with play in seven tackle divisions and in flag football.

North Conference

In the North Conference standings, Titusville is in first place in flag football with a conference record of 3-0 and is 5-1 overall.

Suntree/Viera leads the North Jr. Rookies division with a conference mark of 3-0 and is 7-1 overall.

Rockledge is in front in the North Rookies standings at 3-0 conference and 7-0 overall.

In the North Mighty Mites division, Suntree/Viera is the leader at 4-0 conference and 6-1 overall.

The North  Conference Pee Wees race is coming down to the final week. Titusville is in  first at 3-0 conference and 5-2 overall, but Suntree/Viera is 3-1 conference and 6-1 overall.

Bantams contenders in the North include Rockledge (2-0 conference, 8-0 overall), Suntree/Viera (2-1 conference, 4-3 overall) and Merritt Island (2-0 conference, 5-3 overall). The playoff seeds in the Bantams division will be decided this Saturday as Rockledge hosts Merritt Island and Suntree/Viera visits Sebastian.

Rockledge is ahead in the North Juniors division at 2-0 conference and 5-23 overall, trailed by Suntree/Viera at 2-1 conference and 4-3 overall.

The Titusville Terriers lead the North Conference Senior division standings with a record of 3-0 conference and 6-2 overall.

South Conference

Many races in the South Conference are yet to be finalized.

Palm Bay is in first in flag football with a conference mark of 2-0 and is 7-0 overall.

West Melbourne leads South Jr. Rookies contenders at 3-0 conference and 8-0 overall.

In the South Rookies division, West Melbourne (4-0 conference and 7-1 overall) and Palm Bay (4-0 conference and 7-1 overall) are tied for first place. The two will meet Saturday at Rodes Park to determine which squad will earn the top conference division seed.

Another game Saturday at Rodes Park will decide the top seed in the South Mighty Mites division between West Melbourne (4-0 conference, 8-0 overall) and Palm Bay (4-0 conference and 7-1 overall).

Three squads are vying for first place in the South Pee Wees race. The Bayside Bears are currently leading the division standings at 4-0 conference and 7-0 overall, but close behind are West Melbourne (3-1 conference, 6-2 overall) and South Beach (3-1 conference, 4-3 overall). The South Beach Seahawks play at Bayside this Saturday.

A three-way race also will be decided Saturday in the South Conference Bantams division. West Melbourne (4-0 conference, 7- overall) is on top, with South Beach (3-1 conference and 5-3 overall) and Palm Bay (3-1 conference, 4-3 overall) trailing. The West Melbourne Broncos host the Palm Bay Pirates on Saturday, while South Beach travels to face winless Bayside (0-4 conference, 0-8 overall).

In the South Juniors race, Palm Bay (4-0 conference, 7-0 overall) leads, but Bayside (3-1 conference, 6-2 overall) and West Melbourne (3-1 conference, 6-1 overall) are close. Palm Bay plays West Melbourne this week.

A showdown Saturday at Rodes Park will determine the top seed in the South Conference Seniors division between Palm Bay (4-0 conference, 6-0 overall) and West Melbourne (4-0 conference, 7-0 overall).

The two conference division champions will meet in the annual BCYFCA Super Bowls on Nov. 10 at Max K. Rodes Park in West Melbourne to determine the 2012 league champions.

The league’s annual cheerleading championships follow a week later at Melbourne High School on Nov. 17.
