School Monitors Storm's Progress

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Even though all Brevard Public schools will be closed Friday because of the approach of Hurricane Sandy off the coast, classes at Florida Institute of Technology will proceed as usual.

In a press release issued Thursday afternoon, Florida Tech’s administration says it continues to monitor Hurricane Sandy, but all classes and other university operations are proceeding as scheduled for Friday.

“The latest forecast calls for the possibility of some gusty wind and thunderstorms in the Melbourne area and all members of the campus community should plan accordingly,” university officials are quoted as saying in the press release.

The university has more than 14,000 students attending classes on its campus in Melbourne.
