Man Dies In Scooter-Car Collision in West Melbourne

BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Investigators from the West Melbourne Police Department are looking for clues in a traffic crash left that a Palm Bay scooter rider dead Monday.

Lt. Richard Cordeau of the West Melbourne Police said Daniel Leroy Robbins, of Palm Bay, 62. was riding a motorize scooter west near 7795 Ellis Road about 11:25 a.m. Monday when he collided with Dodge Avenger traveling east.

Robbins was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne where he was pronounced dead.

Cordeau said the cause of the accident remains under investigation.

“Investigators are still trying to piece together the chain of events that led to the collision,” Cordeau said. “At this time, no charges have been filed.”

Ellis Road was closed just after the crash, while investigators collected evidence and processed the scene.

The road was reopened at 2 p.m.
