BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Alcohol consumption is suspected after a driver crashed his vehicle into two police patrol cars in Palm Bay late Monday.

Palm Bay Police Public Information Coordinator Yvonne Martinez said that at about 10 p.m. Monday, Palm bay Police Cpl. Floyd Burke and Officer Chris Maloy responded to a disabled vehicle in the middle of the southbound lanes of Babcock Street just south of Blayne Street.

The officers positioned their patrol cars in the left southbound lane of Babock Street with emergency lights activated in order to block the disabled vehicle.

During this time a man driving a 2005 model Chevy Colorado  failed to stop or yield for the emergency lights and struck one of the police vehicles pushing it into the other vehicle.

Martinez said the driver, Errol Brace, 61, was possibly impaired and suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash.

She said Burke’s patrol vehicle sustained heavy damage and may be totaled and Maloy’s patrol vehicle also sustained minor damage.

Neither officer was injured.

Brace was transported to Palm Bay Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Martinez said an investigation into the crash is ongoing and criminal charges are pending.
