“I will be going to Taiwan from November 9 to 19 to act as the MLB physician at the Taiwan WBC Qualifier venue,” Thomas said. “My official duties are to ensure that all participating MLB contracted players in the WBC Qualifiers receive a level of medical support that meets the expectations of the 30 MLB Clubs.”

Thomas will oversee care for all MLB players participating at the Taiwan WBC.

“In some cases, a country may also have their own physician. Part of my job is to assist the country’s physicians in the care of their players if they request it,” he said. “In addition, I provide liaison with the local medical care if a player requires additional medical services.  I’ll work in conjunction with local medical facilities.”

While serving in Taiwan, another of his duties will be to communicate with major league teams about any injuries MLB contracted players may incur.

This is not the first time that Thomas has treated players at a WBC event. He served as the MLB venue physician at the WBC in Tokyo in 2006 and 2009.
