BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Police in Palm Bay have arrested twin sisters  following an incident with a neighbor that escalated to felony battery and child abuse.

Palm Bay Police Department spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez said that Sandra Karwel and her sister Sondra Karwel were arrested outside their home at 1441 Bianca Drive shortly after the incident.

Martinez said that at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday patrol officers responded to the area of Bianca Drive after a report of a disturbance between neighbors.

When officers arrived they learned throughout the day the Karwel sisters continuously called police to complain about neighborhood activity and accused a neighbor of criminal mischief on their property, according to Martinez.

“Sondra then got into a verbal argument with the neighbor next door and took a swing at her,” Martinez said.

“According to several witnesses Sondra and Sandra jumped the neighbor knocking her to the ground and kicked her about the face and body.”

Martinez said when the neighbor’s 10-year-old son tried to help his mother, Sandra Karwel grabbed him by the hair and punched him several times according to witnesses.

As a result of the incident. Sandra Karwel is facing charges of battery, child abuse and resisting arrest.  Sondra Karwel is facing charges of felony battery and also has a prior conviction for the same.

Both of the sisters were candidates for Palm Bay City Council seats earlier this year.
