BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA VILLAGE, FLORIDA – The Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse at 300 Brevard Avenue will be filled with the sounds of retro cool this weekend when the Space Coast Swing Ensemble presents “A Cool Yule” concert.
The concert will start at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16 and will include old and new holiday jazz classics along with toe-tapping Big Band arrangements of seasonal favorites.
Renowned east coast jazz singer and “First Lady of Song” Linda Cole will provide vocals for a variety of numbers.
The Big Band sound of the Space Coast Swing Ensemble is hugely popular with many full-time Brevard residents and winter visitors, according to band leader, Marion Scott.
“We love playing at the historic Cocoa Village Playhouse,” said Scott. “And we are happy to have Linda Cole as a fantastic addition this year. Folks are really going to enjoy her smooth voice.”
Cole has sung professionally since she was 3.
Her family group, “The Singing Coles” are a part of Illinois music history and began with religious songs, then added popular music to their programs. The Cole family made their mark in the U.S. music scene and Linda branched out into rhythm and blues.
She was well known in the famous Detroit “MoTown,” appearing with such groups as The Spinners, Count Basie and many others.
While being acknowledged as having the “smoothest voice” in the business, she is currently appearing in jazz spots, night clubs and restaurants throughout the Southeastern U.S. and continues to mentor the young and choirs.
Tickets for Sunday’s performance start at $26 for general admission adults, seniors are $24.
