Update: SWAT Captures Armed Robber After Standoff

Dozens Evacuated For Safety
BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team captured an armed robbery suspect on Christmas Eve after a tense standoff an apartment complex.

Access in and out of the Williamsburg Village North Apartments at 50 Needle Boulevard on Merritt Island was restricted by deputies until the situation was resolved.
Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Major Vic DeSantis said Mark S. Holland, 21, is suspected of holding up a produce stand near the Shore Lanes Bowling Center on Courtenay Parkway about 3:10 p.m. and then fleeing to his apartment in the complex where he barricaded himself in and refused to surrender.
Because he was heavily armed, the SWAT team was summoned and about 50 residents of the apartment complex were evacuated for their safety until the standoff ended about 9:30 p.m.
Holland was charged with robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, display of a firearm, larceny, two counts of violation of probation and resisting arrest.
He is currently in the Brevard County Jail awaiting arraignment.
