BREVARD COUNTY • KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLORIDA – An 87-year-old woman traveling alone was killed Sunday afternoon in a one-car crash on the NASA Parkway.

Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes said Pearl E. Brown’s 2002 Ford was headed east on the NASA Parkway near Space Commerce Way about 2:45 p.m. Sunday.

The vehicle suddenly drifted across the median and entered the westbound lane of the causeway.

Montes said the vehicle then left the roadway and plunged into the Indian River.

“A Good Samitarian went into the water and rescued the woman from the completely submerged vehicle, but she was pronounced dead at the scene,” Montes said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by troopers, Montes said.

Brown’s name was released to the media Monday evening following notification of family.
