Distraught Palm Bay Man Kills Mother, Then Himself

Incident Followed Argument With Girlfriend
BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Police in Palm Bay say a man shot and killed his mother and then himself early Saturday morning.
Palm Bay Public Information Officer Yvonne Martinez said officers were called to 141 Certosa Street N.E. in Palm Bay about 1 a.m. Saturday for reports of shots fired.
At the scene, an investigation by Palm Bay Police Major Crimes detectives revealed Keith Jay, 29, beat his pregnant girlfriend while arguing with her, then entered a bedroom at the residence where he shot and killed his mother, Ruth Jay, 54.
Martinez said he then went to the front yard of the home and killed himself with a Taurus 9mm pistol.
She said Jay had threatened suicide in the past.
Family has been notified of the deaths and placed in contact with victims assistance.
