About Dr. Dirk Parvus
Dr. Dirk Parvus is triple board certified in family, emergency and sports medicine.
An expert in Age Management Medicine, Dr Parvus, received Physician Training & Certification jointly sponsored by Cenegenics Education and Research Foundation (CERF) and the Foundation for Care Management (FCM).
In addition, he has completed Levels 1,2 and 3 of the Bio-identical Hormone Replacement courses run by Worldlink.
He is also a member of the Institute of Lifestyle Medicine and is currently enrolled in the Functional Medicine Certification Program.
In 2011, Dr. Parvus founded the Parvus Center to offer patients the medical knowledge he has gained from his expertise in the fields of Age Management, Preventative and Functional Medicine.
He is also investigating the emerging and promising therapies that use telomerase activator and stem cells to rejuvenate and regenerate the body.
He is particularly focused on utilizing his knowledge to treat the Cardiometabolic Syndrome which has become an epidemic in our community. Dr. Parvus’ ultimate goal is to help patients avoid the debilitating diseases of aging so that they too can enjoy life to the fullest well into their 80’s and 90’s.
Dr. Parvus earned his undergraduate, MBA, and medical degree from the University of the Witswatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed his residency in family medicine at Penn State’s Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
In 1979, during his medical training, he developed an Aerobic Center based on the teaching of fitness pioneer Dr. Kenneth Cooper. He went on to establish a sports medicine office in 1987 before entering the field of emergency medicine and becoming the medical director of the emergency room at Sebastian River Medical Center in Florida.
Dr. Parvus is a strong believer in preventive medicine through exercise and lifestyle modification. In 1990, at age 40, Dr. Parvus ran his first Boston Marathon in 3 hours and 36 min. He completed 8 subsequent marathons in Boston as well as several others in New York, Orlando and Miami.
However, by 2007, his pace had slowed to 4 hours and 54 minutes. He initially attributed the decline in his race times to the normal slow-down associated with aging, but after doing extensive research, he discovered Age Management Medicine.
In August 2007 Dr. Parvus began his own treatment journey, using proven protocols to help restore and maintain optimal health and vigor. Within six months, he had shaved almost half an hour off his time at the 2008 Disney Marathon (4 hours and 31 minutes), effectively reversing a 2-decade decline.
A few months later, Dr. Parvus accomplished a lifelong goal by running the Comrades Ultra Marathon, a 54-mile endurance race in South Africa, and the following year he realized another dream by hiking to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Kenya.
In addition to his practice, Dr. Parvus is an advocate for the medically underserved. In 2007 he founded the non-profit organization Haiti Clinic and he currently serves on their board of directors, visiting Haiti regularly to treat the impoverished people of Cite Soleil.
He was recently honored with the 2010 Central Florida Humanitarian Award and as the 2010 Indian River County Hero of Medicine for his continued efforts in Haiti.
