BCC beat St. Petersburg College 7-6 in the opening game and then lost 11-5 to Northwest Florida in the nightcap.

The Titans play South Georgia at 1:20 p.m. Saturday and Hillsborough Community College at 3:20 p.m. All games are at Clearwater’s Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex.

“I thought we played an even day,” BCC assistant coach Bob Yanczewski said. “It was a hard-fought first game. We hung in there and got the win.
“In the nightcap we just couldn’t hold them. We were in the game (trailing 3-2) until they scored four runs in the sixth inning.”

“Not bad at all. Very good for day one.”

Sophomore Kat Ammons was the hitting star for BCC collecting a total of five runs batted in, two against St. Petersburg and three against Northwest Florida.

Sophomores Cassie Boggs and Jami Cordell hit doubles in the first game and classmate Shannen Marchu doubled in the nightcap.

BCC had 14 hits against St. Petersburg and eight against Northwest Florida. Defensively BCC committed three errors in the opener and one in the nightcap.

Marchu was the winning pitcher in the opener while Cordell took the loss against Northwest Florida.

BCC’s first home games on its field on the south end of the Palm Bay Campus off Malabar Road are 4 and 6 p.m. Thursday against Seminole State College.

Admission to BCC home games is free.
