FIT Women’s Rowers Tackle Tough Schedule

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Seventh-year head coach Adam Thorstad and the Florida Tech women’s rowing team will welcome in the 2013 season with the Keuper Cup on March 9 at Canal 54 in Fellsmere.

The race is the first of three at home, all are in the month of March.

“I am excited for the upcoming season,” Thorstad said. “We have a young squad with a lot of potential. I am eager for them to compete and look forward to them experiencing what they have been working hard towards. There are a few changes in the schedule from last year, so I am interested to see how this season unfolds.”

In their season opener on March 9, the Panthers will race against NCAA Division I Jacksonville.

FIT will return to the canal the following two weekends for the Governor’s Cup on Saturday, March 16 and the DII Duals on Saturday, March 23. Division I Columbia and Sunshine State Conference counterpart Barry will also compete in the Governor’s Cup in the middle of March.

Barry will return to Fellsmere once more for the duals along with fellow SSC member Nova Southeastern and Central Oklahoma.

The month of April will begin the championship portion of the schedule.

On April 5 and 6, the Panthers will compete at the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association (FIRA) Championships in Sarasota. Two weeks later on April 20 and 21, they will take part in the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

FIT will then travel back to Sarasota for the SSC Championships on April 26.

The Crimson and Gray will participate in the 75th annual Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pa. from May 10 to 11.

Qualifying teams will move on to the NCAA Division II Championships May 31 to June 2 at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis.
