Gerald Santschi, 76, Dies Feb. 5

OBITUARY

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Gerald “Jerry” Santschi, 76, joined our Lord and Savior in heaven on February 15, 2013 after battling lung cancer for over four months.

Jerry was born in a taxi cab en route to a Chicago hospital on October 7, 1936 to the late Raymond and Helen Santschi.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Patricia; his children Greg Santschi and wife Jeannie, Cindy and husband Chris Trimmer, Dina and husband Matthew Gundelfinger, Dawn and husband Scott Rzeznik ; sibling, Ronald Santschi; his 10 grandchildren Sean, Chris, Justin, Drew, Rachel, Blake, Shelbie, Hannah, Emma and Sage.

Jerry was preceded in death by his three brothers Robert, Lawrence, and Dennis. In 1959 Jerry joined the Local 150 Operating Engineers Union in the Chicago area which he was a member for over 50 years.

Jerry and Pat retired to Florida in 2004. Jerry had a passion for fishing and most recently enjoyed time spent with the Palm Bay Bass Club. He also loved tinkering in his garage, watching car racing on TV (at an abnormally loud volume), spending time with his Grandchildren and his dog Shi. His grandchildren remember him best as sneaking them Snickers’ candy bars and teaching them how to fish.

A memorial service will be held on March 30th, 2013, 11am at Florida Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Jerry’s memory to Ronald McDonald House.
