Posey To Present Honor On Friday

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – A  military veteran from Brevard County will receive a long-awaited Prisoner of War medal for his service to our nation during the Korean War.

United States Army Retired Command Sgt. Major Gordon L. Petro of Melbourne, 80, will be presented with the POW Medal by U.S. Congressman Bill Posey at 1:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22 at the Brevard County Government Complex, Building C in Viera.

 “Americans everywhere, including myself, are eternally grateful for the sacrifices that Command Sgt. Major Petro and his family have endured while serving our nation,” Posey said.

Army Command Sgt. Major Gordon L. Petro was captured Sept. 3, 1951 at Mohyo-Dong in North Korea and returned after two years in captivity to the United Nations Military Control Munsan-Ni in South Korea on Sept. 3, 1953.

Petro served our nation for 27 years prior to retiring and was never presented his POW Medal.

Following his retirement from the military, he worked for the San Diego County school system and serves as the Commander of an Air Force Junior ROTC program.
