Smoke From Controlled Burn Drifts Through Palm Bay

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Smoke from a controlled burn will affect portions of northeast Palm Bay for much 0f Thursday afternoon.

Palm Bay Public Information Officer Yvonne Martinez said that the burn is being conducted by Brevard County Environmentally Endangered Lands and it briefly “spotted over” in a small area, but is currently contained.

Palm Bay Fire-Rescue is at the scene as part of mutual aid along with Florida Division of Forestry, the Malabar Volunteer Fire Department and Brevard County Fire-Rescue.

The burn is in a portion of the Malabar Sanctuary just southeast of the Turkey Creek Sanctuary.

Residents in the area should not call 9-1-1 unless flames are seen threatening property or structures.

Martinez said that residents with respiratory issues such as allergies may want to consider staying indoors during the duration of the burn.
