City of Cape Canaveral To Mark 50th Anniversary

BREVARD COUNTY • CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – The city of Cape Canaveral is planning a nine-month grand celebration to mark its 50th anniversary and special activities start later this month.

Participants in the city’s  Southern Style BBQ and Heritage Day on Saturday, March 23 will find fun for the entire family, including kids’ activities, a classic car show, local displays and arts & crafts vendors.

The celebration will run from noon to 4 p.m. at Manatee Sanctuary Park, 701 Thurm Boulevard in Cape Canaveral.

Actitivies start with a Native American tribal dance, followed by re-enactors of various periods of history.

Special guest speaker will be author Jay Barbree, who will talk about the early days at the cape.

There will be an old fashioned barbecue with live music provided by Sound Traveler, along with the unveiling of the 50th anniversary commemorative sea turtle sculpture, ceremonial sealing of a 50-year time capsule and a special announcement about a pictorial postmark for the city’s anniversary in May.

The cost for adult  to enjoy the barbecue is $7 and for children 12 and under is $5.

Attendees wearing commemorative T-shirts will receive complimentary barbecue tickets.

Commerative T-Shirts may be purchased at the Cape Canaveral City Hall at 105 Polk Avenue i  Cape Canaveral and at 7300 N. Atlantic Avenue.
