BREVARD COUNTY • SUNTREE, FLORIDA – An elderly woman  involved in a  minor traffic accident on Friday morning mistook the brake for the gas pedal in her car and then drove through the yards of two home in Suntree.

Sgt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol said Estina Williams of Melbourne, 77, was driving on Interlachen Road about 11:15 a.m. Friday when her 2003 Toyota Camry was hit from behind in a minor crash.

Montes said after the impact, Williams used the gas pedal instead of the brake, causing her vehicle to leave the roadway.

It then traveled through the lawns and yards of two nearby residences.

The front of Williams’ car struck a fence and a gas meter before coming to rest against a house at 1290 Harbor Town Circle in Suntree.

No one was injured in the crash.

According to Montes, Williams was wearing a seat belt and was charged with careless driving.
