Friendly Toast Café Adds Melbourne Location

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A Melbourne Beach tradition is quickly becoming a Melbourne favorite for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Laura Ferreira, who launched the Friendly Toast Café in Melbourne Beach in 2001, has opened another Friendly Toast location at 380 N. Wickham Road in Melbourne.
The Melbourne Beach location at 311 Ocean Avenue was not an overnight success and it Ferreira said it took a lot of work to make the business profitable.
“When we bought it, we struggled for about a year to build it up. It had a really bad reputation,” she said. “Now today it’s at its peak. It’s a very busy restaurant.”
Ferreira said about three months ago her family decided to open up another Friendly Toast Café at the site of the old Colossus Restaurant.
“This restaurant is doing better than the first one did at first, but it still has a ways to go to meet my standards,” she said. “We are open seven days a week serving breakfast and lunch and are closed only on Christmas.”
She said the new Melbourne location also serves dinner Wednesday through Saturdays evenings until 8 p.m.
“We serve breakfast all day even for dinner,” Ferreira said. “We have a huge breakfast menu ranging from two-egg breakfasts, to omlets and benedicts. You can also get a burger at 6 a.m. if you wish.”
Many of Ferreira’s family members are working at the new location, including her husband, two of her five daughters and some cousins.
“Since they are family, our standards are set even higher for them to do their job right,” she said.
And to Ferreira, making the customers happy is what keeps them coming back again and again.
“We aim to please. If something isn’t on the menu and we have the ingredients, we will create it for you,” she said. “We do our best to please our customers.”
The Friendly Toast Cafe 2 in Melbourne is open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Ssturday and 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
