Melbourne Chamber Hosts Viera/Suntree Business Council

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA — Changing tax codes and tax laws were a hot topic at the latest quarterly meeting of the Viera/Suntree Business Council.

More than 60 local business professionals came to network and to hear presentations on taxation changes affecting payroll tax, business credits, medicare, trusts and estates. The event was presented by the Melbourne Regional Chamber and Redwire was the event sponsor.

Among the attendees were Denwood Parrish, Claudia Proffitt, Gil Russell, Cara Philpot, Malak Hammad, Todd Werkeiser, A.B. Leyva and Mike Durante. The featured speakers were Joel Boyd, Esquire, of Boyd & Marks; and Brian Fisher, CPA with Berman Hopkins Wright and Laham.

Boyd spoke on taxation changes affecting estates, trusts, annuities and 401k accounts. Fisher discussed the latest business tax laws, and changes to social security and payroll taxes.

An engaging question and answer session followed, in which the speakers fielded questions on corporate tax and tax deductions.

Boyd has practiced law in Brevard since 1978, primarily in the areas of estate planning and administration, business law and transactions, real-estate transactions and tax planning. Fisher has 35 years of accounting, auditing and tax experience. His main focus is on the Berman Hopkins’ accounting and tax services group.

The next meeting of the Viera/Suntree Business Council is slated for May, 2013.
