One-Car Crash Kills Rockledge Woman On I-95

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Florida Highway Patrol has released the name of a woman killed in a one-car accident on I-95 on Saturday.

Sgt. Kim Montes of the FHP said that  Melinda Elliot Lachance of R0ckledge, 50, was driving south in a 2001 Mazda in the outside lane of I-95 near the Port st. John Parkway about 12:40 a.m. Saturday.

For an unknown reason, Lachance’s car left the roadway and traveled onto the shoulder.

The front of the Mazda struck a pole and then hit several trees.

Lachance was pronounced dead at the scene.

Montes said Lachance was not wearing a seatbelt and toxicology reports are pending to determine if alcohol may been a factor in the accident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by troopers.
