The event will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at the academy, 1950 S. Academy Drive in Melbourne and admission is free of charge.

Junior ROTC units teams from across Florida; representative of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines, will compete in more than 50 drill events, accumulating cash awards and the title of “Top Unit” and “Top Cadet.”

Judges will be drawn from Police and Fire Service “Honor Guard” units in the Melbourne area and military personnel from Patrick Air Force Base and WDA affiliates.

Presiding over the days’ events, on behalf of the World Drill Association, will be SSG John K Marshall, USAC, author of the definitive guide to drill techniques “The Honor Guard,” and publisher of “Drillmaster Press.”

Florida Air Academy’s SMSgt. Stephen Hammond said, “It’s a great honor for our school to partner with WDA on an event of this size. The format is very unusual, encompassing all branches of the Armed Services, and we expect the teams to be extremely competitive as a result.

“It’s also a wonderful opportunity to showcase the work being undertaken by J/ROTC units in high schools across Florida, and we hope that visitors both young and old will come out in support.”
