BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Mavericks Sports Grill & Bar hosted a celebrity sports meet-and-greet and auction featuring four-time World Series winner Jay Johnstone, along with two-time Super Bowl winner, Lincoln Coleman.

Jay Johnstone played in the Major Leagues from 1966 to 1985.

Both were in Brevard County to support Hope4Heroes as part of a number of events in the community on Thursday, April 4 and Friday April 5 –including a dinner and golf outing.

“The Mavericks event was a great opportunity for the public to meet and mingle with a couple of true sports legends,” said Victor Luebker, CEO of Hope4Heroes, the charity being supported.

“It’s not often you get a four-time World Series winner, and a two-time Super Bowl champion in the same room.”

FORMER U.S. MARINE

Besides being a World Series Champion Johnstone is a former U.S. Marine and the national spokesman for Hope4Heroes.

“He donates countless hours a year to the military and veterans, and as also appeared in some great movies and was a color commentator for the Yankees,” said Luebker.

His 19-year career in the Major Leagues is among the longest of any player, and he was know as the funny man of baseball during his day playing for the Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs, A’s, Padres and Phillies.

“It’s always exciting coming back here to Brevard County because of the outpouring of support for our troops,” said Johnstone.  “It has been a fun filled couple of days.”

SPORTS LEGENDS AUCTION

Both Johnstone and Coleman are great ambassadors as they posed for photos, signed autographs and met with fans at the Mavericks mixer and VIP reception.

“There was raffle and sports legends auction that included autographed jerseys from Tim Tebow, Mark McGuire, Jay, Ryan Dempster and Rusty Wallace – plus many other great items were up for auction to support the charity,” said Luebker.

GOLF OUTING AT BAYTREE

The festivities also included an opportunity for more than 100 golfers to join Jay and Lincoln at Baytree Golf Links as part of  the charity golf outing being put on by local business AC Magnetic.
