BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Police Department will conduct a drug take-back collection this weekend.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27 and provides citizens with a safe disposal and convenient site for unwanted prescription medications.

The disposal site will be at Melbourne Police Department headquarters at 650 N. Apollo Boulevard in Melbourne.

Officer Jennifer Amneus of the Melbourne Police said the event is being held in collaboration with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration to allow the anonymous disposal of expired or unused medications.

Its goal is to prevent unintended and unsafe use of medications.

No identification information is required of participants.

Illicit drugs such as marijuana and methamphetamine will not be accepted, according to Amneus.

Intravenous solutions, injectable materials, and syringes also will not be accepted.’
