‘Operation Clean Sweep’ Takes Down Violent Criminals

236 Arrests Made In 60-Day Special Mission

BREVARD COUNTY •TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – At a press conference on Friday afternoon, Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey and Titusville Interim Police Chief John Lau announced the conclusion of a 60-day intensive law enforcement operation called “Operation Clean Sweep.”

The special operation resulted in 236 arrests and the seizure of 28 firearms, three meth labs dismantled and the seizure of  $17,000 in cash.

With a spike in violent crime, both agencies partnered together to take a zero tolerance approach to eliminate the growing threat to our community.

The Titusville Police Department and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Department of Corrections (Probation & Parole), ATF/Cease Fire Task Force, DEA and the GAMEOVER Task Force to address violent crime.

The goals of this operation were to target violent criminals and to identify associates committing drug sales, possession of concealed weapons, active warrants, violations of probation and any other criminal activity in north Brevard County.

The emphasis was directed toward documenting active gang members as well as enforcing all applicable criminal state statutes.

The focus was to use probation compliance checks on violent criminals in conjunction with probation officers to enforce the terms of court-ordered release conditions by conducting residential checks and enforcing curfews.

“I commend the efforts by all involved in this operation, which was a total success for our communities,” Sheriff Ivey said. “By combining resources and removing those who refuse to live by the law, we hope that our message was delivered loud and clear, there is absolutely no room in Brevard County for those who choose to victimize and torment our citizens. But we are more than willing to make room in the County Jail.”

Lau echoed Ivey’s sentiments.

“If you are a violent criminal operating in north Brevard, you are done,” he said. “We are taking a zero tolerance approach to threats to our community and law enforcement officers.”
