BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A rollover accident on Merritt Island killed a man and seriously injured a woman on Monday evening.

Sgt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol said a 1995 Oldsmobile was headed south on Tropical Tail about 9:15 p.m. Monday at a high rate of speed.

Montes said the driver lost control of the vehicle near Hill Avenue.

The Oldsmobile overturned multiple times, ejecting both occupants who were not wearing seat belts at the time.

Amber Keith of Merritt Island, 20, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne for treatment.

Justin Craig of Merritt Island, 21, was killed upon ejection.

Montes said alcohol was not a factor, but there is some uncertainty as to who was actually driving the Oldsmobile at the time of the accident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by troopers.
