Update: Officers Arrest Suspect Who Fled Traffic Stop

Incident Happened In Palm Bay
BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Police have arrested a suspect that fled from a traffic stop in Palm Bay on Sunday night.

Palm Bay Public Information Officer Yvonne Martinez said the suspect ran from a traffic stop near San Filippo Drive and Wyoming Drive in southeast Palm Bay about 9:45 p.m. Sunday.
Martinez said Palm Bay Police Cpl. Mike Smith and Officer Tyler Fooks had stopped a vehicle near that intersection when the driver immediately fled on foot.
As the suspect was fleeing he pointed a gun a police officers, according to Martinez.
No shots were fired.
A perimeter was established in the area and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit assisted in an aerial search.
John Kitchen, 42, was arrested by police after he was spotted in the area after sunrise on Monday morning.
Martinez said Kitchen was noticed by an alert citizen who saw him walking along Wyoming Drive early Monday morning and called police directing them to his location.
Kitchen will be charged with Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with a Weapon, Resisting with Violence, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Reckless Driving and Failure to Notify DHSMV on Change of Address.
He is being held on $121,000 bond and will face a judge for his initial appearance Monday afternoon at the Brevard County Detention Center.
