Melbourne Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Sheridan Shelley said officers spotted suspect Steven S. Biest of 428 Poinciana Drive in Melbourne, 54, riding a bicycle about 10:48 a.m. Tuesday near Hickory Street and Nasa Boulevard in Melbourne.

Shelley said Biest has been identified as the suspect who entered the Florida Business Bank at 340 N Harbor City Boulevard about 2:50 p.m. last Wednesday afternoon.

The suspect displayed a firearm and demanded cash from a teller.

The teller complied and handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, but Shelley said when the suspect placed the gun on the counter to stuff cash into a bag,  the teller alertly grabbed the pistol and placed it safely out of the suspect’s reach.

Shelley said Biest then fled the area riding a bicycle.
