BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – An elderly man riding a bicycle was killed in a collision with a car on Thursday morning in Titusville.

Sgt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol said the fatal accident happened about 9 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of State Road 50 and Hacienda Drive in Titusville.

Montes said Neil Dunmire of Titusville, 73, was riding on the north paved shoulder of the roadway as a 2007 Dodge Nitro driven by Douglas Scaroni of Titusville, 68, was traveling west on State Road 50.

For some unknown reason, the Dunmire veered directly into the path of Scaroni and was struck by the Dodge.

Montes said Dunmire, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers are continuing to investigate the accident.

In October 2011 a head-on collision between a car and a semi truck killed a 39-year-old man at the same intersection.
