BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Florida Tech men’s rowing team is in a race for votes and needs your help today by 5 p.m.

“The Florida Tech men’s varsity eight is up for the row2K national Crew of the Week with the likes of Ohio State, Florida, Columbia, Northeastern and Radcliffe,” said Ryan Jones, Florida Tech’s Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications.

“The winning crew will be decided in a vote among fans and the poll will close tonight at 5 p.m. EDT.”

“Last night, we jumped from fifth to third – it would be huge if we could win it,” said Jones.

TECH VARSITY EIGHT SMOKIN’

Florida Tech’s varsity eight moved up one spot to No. 18 in this week’s USRowing Collegiate Poll, posted Wednesday.

TECH-VOTE-403-2The Panthers have now ranked among the top varsity eight crews in the country for four straight weeks. They debuted in the first poll at No. 20 and remained at No. 19 for the last two weeks. The University of Washington’s varsity eight remains the top-ranked crew for the fourth consecutive poll.

FIT’s crew, consisting of coxswain Jessica Mellinger, stroke Ernestas Zarskis, Jonas Karalius, Mindaugas Beliauskas, Martynas Mickus, Joe Horn, Plamen Ivanov, John Martin and bow Carson Green, won gold at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships on Sunday in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The victory was the program’s fourth in the varsity eight at SIRA in five years.
