Boaters Reminded to Prepare for Hurricane Season

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA — The Brevard County Boating and Waterways Program reminds boaters to prepare for hurricane season by having a plan to secure and protect their vessels.
Hurricane season is June 1- Nov. 30.
Boaters should develop a plan for securing their boatsand inspect their marinas or docks for stability.
Also check for correct piling height; collect vessel records; check lines to ensure no weaknesses have developed; outfit their boats with chafe gear and fenders, extra cleats, appropriate anchors and chains, and exhaust pipe plugs; and check bilge pumps, batteries, exterior lights, and radio.
