Five Manatees Will Play In All-Star Game Tonight

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – The Florida State League announced on Tuesday that starting pitchers Brooks Hall and David Goforth, relief pitcher Seth Harvey, catcher Cameron Garfield and first baseman Nick Ramirez were selected from the Brevard County Manatees to represent the North Division in the 2013 Florida State League All-Star Game in Dunedin on June 15.
The five Florida State League mid-season All-Stars for Brevard County are the most for the Manatees since the team had 11 selections for the 2009 FSL All-Star Game.
Hall, who was recently promoted to Double-A Huntsville and therefore will not eligible to play in the game, went 2-3 with a 2.78 earned run average – which still ranks 11th in the league in ERA – in 11 appearances with Brevard County.
He left the ‘Tees and the FSL with a 1.11 WHIP, which currently ties him for sixth in the league and a .216 batting average against, which ranks Hall third among Florida State League starting pitchers. Hall was drafted in the fourth round of the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft out of T.L. Hanna S.C.High School.
Goforth, who will take Hall’s spot on the North Division roster, is currently 13th in the league with a 3.05 ERA. He ranks sixth in the FSL with 62 innings pitched and has gone at least six innings in six of his last seven starts.
Goforth has also struck out at least seven batters in three of his last four outings. Goforth was drafted in the seventh round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Mississippi.
Harvey is currently third in the league with ten saves, despite being on the disabled list since May 16. He has not blown a save all season and before going on the disabled list, he had a 1.69 ERA in five appearances with five saves in the month of May.
This is Harvey’s second consecutive mid-season All-Star selection as he was picked for the Midwest League All-Star Game last season, while with Class-A Wisconsin. Harvey was drafted in the 37th round of the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the Brewers out of Washington State University.
Garfield hit .275 in April with five home runs and 15 runs batted in. He recorded a .510 slugging percentage that month and had a ten-game hitting streak from April 12-21.
He was named the FSL Player of the Week for the period of April 15-21. In seven games that week, Garfield hit .310 8-for-25 with four homers, seven RBI and seven runs scored.
He also had a .393 on-base percentage and a .800 slugging percentage in those seven games. Garfield was drafted in the second round of the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the Brewers out of Murrieta Valley High School.
Ramirez entered play on Tuesday with 12 home runs, which ranks second in the Florida State League, with eight of his homers coming in the month of May.
He was selected as the designated hitter by the voters on the ballot. The slugger is seventh in the league in total bases, tied for eighth in RBI and 14th in slugging percentage.
He is also tied for the team lead in his as he has 52 so far this season for the Manatees. Ramirez was drafted in the fourth round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the Brewers out of Cal State Fullerton.
