TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA — A release from the Florida Lottery reported a $5 billion in sales for the 2013-2013 fiscal year, a record-high in its 25 year history.
According to the release, the Lottery also expects to transfer a record $1.41 billion to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF) for fiscal year 2012-13.
Gov. Rick Scott
“Today’s news that the Florida Lottery will invest more than $1 billion for Florida’s education system means more students will have the opportunity to get a quality education,” Governor Scott said. “The Lottery’s education investments build on our success last session to increase state education investments by more than $1 billion and provide teachers with a well-deserved pay raise.”
In two fiscal years, the Florida Lottery has increased sales by $1 billion. That’s the fastest pace to one billion dollars in 25 years of existence.
The Florida Lottery’s success depends on its effective implementation of an entrepreneurial business model that focuses on the development of new revenue streams and creates a win-win partnership with its private-sector vendors. The Lottery constantly evaluates its operating expenses in order to maximize profits, a practice that has resulted in the Lottery having one of the lowest expense rates among domestic lotteries.
Lottery contributions have made an impact with more than $1 billion being transferred annually to the EETF for the past eleven consecutive fiscal years, representing approximately six percent of the state’s total education budget.

“The Lottery’s sole mission is to sell tickets to generate additional funding for education. We are extremely proud to be able to transfer this unprecedented amount to the Education Enhancement Trust Fund this year,” said Florida Lottery Secretary Cynthia O’Connell. “On behalf of the entire organization, we thank our players and our retailers for making this, such an exceptional year.”

STATEWIDE EDUCATION FACT SHEET
The Florida Lottery was created by a constitutional amendment in 1986 for the purpose of
generating additional moneys for public education in the state of Florida.
The Florida Lottery has contributed $25 billion in contributions to the Educational
Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF).
The Lottery has contributed more than $1 billion annually for the past ten consecutive fiscal years.
Last fiscal year, the Lottery transferred a record $1.3 billion to the EETF.
Lottery proceeds have impacted every school district in our state, contributing to K-12 programs in Florida’s 67 school districts, the building and renovation of schools throughout the state, funding for state universities and community colleges, and state student financial aid.
Florida’s public schools (Pre-K and K-12 programs) have received more than $14 billion since the Lottery’s inception.
To date, more than $3.9 billion in Lottery revenues have helped build and renovate close to 800 schools through the Classrooms First and Classrooms for Kids Programs.
Florida’s state universities and colleges have also benefited, receiving a combined total of more than $6.4 billion since the Lottery’s inception.
The Lottery fully-funded the Bright Futures Scholarship Program for many years, and now serves as the program’s main contributor (approximately 90% funded by the Lottery and 10% funded by slots).
More than $3.9 billion in Bright Futures scholarships have been awarded to more than 600,000 students in the state. Additionally, $356 million has been provided to students in the form of other state student financial aid.
Since the Florida Lottery joined POWERBALL in 2009, the game has generated more than $777 million for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.
For the past 25 years, the Lottery has remained a dependable contributor to Florida’s
education system.
