BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A vehicle traveling westbound at a high rate of speed on the Hubert Humphrey Bridge (SR 520 – Merritt Island Causway) at approximately 11:00 a.m. today caused a six vehicle pile-up, according to the Cocoa Police Department.

According to witnesses, traffic was stopped on the west side of the bridge as a result of an accident earlier in the day as the vehicle approached from Merritt Island. As the vehicle got to the top of the bridge, the driver was unable to stop the vehicle as it struck five other vehicles. No one in any of the other vehicles was hurt.

Two occupants of the vehicle fled the scene while one person remained behind who was arrested by the Cocoa Police. Arrested was Darvin Anton Wilfork, 26, of Sunrise, Florida, on a warrant for violation of probation on a misdemeanor driving while license suspended charge. It is unknown if Wilfork was the actual driver.

According to the Cocoa Police Department, two handguns were found in the vehicle, which Wilfork said belonged to him. Wilfork does have a concealed weapons permit for the guns, and the police are holding then for safe keeping.

The investigation is an ongoing investigation.
